Principles and Codes for Ecotourism 2.

To support the preservation of wilderness and biodiversity

To support nature conservation including the protection of wildlife, habitat and ecosystems

To supports efforts to stop and, where possible, reverse the physical fragmentation of the landscape since fragmentation both reduces the quality of the tourism experience and degrades the environment.

To promote maintenace of large undeveloped areas. These regions have unique value, and are of primary reasons why tourist go there. This will be undermined by roads, pipelines, forest cuts and other kinds of unsightly large scale developments that fragments the environment.

To support wildlife conservation programmes and projects. To make our clients aware of them and ensure that they do not hunt or fish protected or threatened species, go into sensitive wildlife habitat; or buy products made from protected species.

To support organisations such as the World Wide Fund for Nature.

To use natural resources in a sustainable way

To encourage use's of natural resources that are sustainable, including undeveloped areas

For areas that are already developed, we encourage uses that are sustainable and environmentally friendly

Where laws permit hunting and fishing, we follow all rules and take only what required: To ensure that our clients obey the laws and regulations and fish and hunt in a way that does not deplete local stocks of wildlife.

To consider the nature and any special vulnerability of the site we will visit when determining how many clients will travel with us. We only operate small group escorted tours in line with our philosophy of small groups leave fewer footprints' which stimulate the local economy in a balanced, sustainable way without placing undue demands on local resources. In wilderness area we take the nature of the site (wildlife, nesting birds, fragile vegetation, etc.) into account when determining how many clients will be in the area at any given time. To inform other operators in the region of our plans in order to avoid over visitation of a site.

To use established trails and campsites where they exist and avoid creating new ones.

To avoid disturbing wildlife. To instruct our clients about local wildlife and its behaviour, especially predators and dangerous animals and we make suxe that they view it from an appropriate distance.

Minimize consumption, waste and pollution

To encourage the use of waste disposal technologies with the least impact on the environment, such as recycling and waste management systems. Where communities have recycling systems; we use them; where they do not, we help develop them

Dispose of waste in a safe and appropriate way, for example by compacting our garbage and taking it with us.

Ensure our tour leaders promote and involve our clients in environmentally responsible practices in all respects, particularly regarding litter and waste disposal on treks and camping trips.

To use biodegradable or íecyclable product packaging

To use paper from a sustainable source manufectured by an environmentally friendly process for brochures, conserve energy use throughout our office.

To minimise the consumption of fossil fuels, avoid motorised transport where possible, and do not use motorised transport for purposes other than getting from one place to another. To choose the means of transport and technology that has the least environmental impact, that causes the least damage and noise.

To limit energy use; including our use of heat and water where supply is limited.

To support the development and use of lodgings that conserve energy, recycle, and dispose of waste and garbage in appropriate ways. To choose accomodation compatible with local traditions and that minimise negative environmental impacts.

To support efforts to clean up and restore'areas where the enviroment has been damaged

To ensure that no evidence of our visit remains behind.

Respect local cultures

Tourism should not change the lifestyles of peoples and communities unless they want it to do so. To coordinate with the communities that we visit, that our visit is welcome, expected and no disruptive.

To respect the rights and wishes of local and indigenous peoples

To ask for permission before visiting sites that communities currently use, such as churches and other holy places, graveyards, camps, lodgings and fishing or hunting sites.

To promote understanding and respect for all local cultures, environmental issues and wildlife by providing our clients with background information and Responsible Travellers' Guidelines to help ensure minimal impact on area visited.

Respect historic and scientific sites

Archeological, historic, prehistoric and scientific sites and remains are important to local heritage and to science. Disturbing them diminishes their value and is often illegal.

To do not encourage clients to remove and take any souvenir

To respect the value of these sites and remains and promote their protection:

To respect the work of scientists by arranging our visits to scientific installations beforehand and by leaving work sites undisturbed.
