We finished a week-long tour for butterflies today, with extreme success. In the Kiskunsag area we encountered with thousands of Cardinals, while in the Bakony Mts. we managed to photograph several great species. It was also the week of the largest migration of Painted Ladies ever recorded, with billions migrating to the NE, all over the country. Fritillaries were at large, incl. Marsh, Scarce, Heath, False Heath, Nicker'l, Spotted, Lesser Spotted, Assmann's, Glanville, Knapweed, Twin-spotted, Niobe, Small Pearl-bordered on ONE single spot, which was just breathtaking, reminded me for the best days of my childhood time. We also have seen Common and Hungarian Gliders, Lesser and Freyer's (or Hungarian) Emperors, Clouded Apollo, superb Amanda's, Turquoise and Adonis Blues among many others, Large and Purple-shot Coppers together, Black Hairstreak, Eastern Pale Clouded Yellow, some late Lesser Clouded Yellow, Tufted Marbled Skipper, Orbed Red-underwing Skipper, and the best discovery, the 4th site for Olive Skipper, an extreme rarity in Hungary. Poplar Admiral is on wing already too! Our birding-vein was also satisfied with several great views on Great Bustards, Bee-eaters, Rollers, Lesser Grey Shrikes, Nightjars, Corncrakes, Scops Owls, Short-toed Eagles, Montagu's Harrier, and many other "Pusta-birds". Saker and Imperial Eagle was on spot, of course.
