  Preparing For Your Tour

If you depart, please make sure your documentation is in order. A passport valid for six months after your return is required. Check your visa if necessary! Please have some extra copy of your passport, visa, etc., and keep them separately!

If you have a health problem, please consult your doctor about health precautions and the medicaments or injections you may need. Please always inform us about your health problem, medications, allergies and your contact at home in emergency via the booking form or in e-mail!

Check to see that all of your air arrangements are in order. Check your tickets, and be sure to reconfirm to make certain your departure time hasn't changed.

Personal items-bring the things you will need and leave unnecessary items at home. Waterproof or rubber boots that reach at least halfway to the knee are useful on many tours (check specific itineraries).

Our leaders carry a scope for birding tours. If you have one, please bring it.

A water bottle and snacks may also be useful.

If you have registered for a tour, be sure to read our "Conditions & Terms", etc. pages and suggestions for specific information.

What to Bring:

As always on such tours we would ask that you travel light but ensure that you have sufficient clothing to be comfortable. Laundry facilities are available at most of our stops.

Binoculars are a must. There will be some very good “close encounters” on tour so for those keen on photography a camera and lenses are must too.

A good pair of hiking boots and wet weather gear is recommended. We may get caught in the odd cold front.

A good water resistant hat and glasses are recommended.

A small daypack for carrying camera, film etc. will be of value.

Details:

Binoculars (preferably with close focus) and photography equipments, extra memory cards/films and camera batteries.

Telescope and tripod if you think they'll be useful.

Butterfly net

Magnifiers, boxes, containers and tubes for examining specimens.

Field guide is not necessary, we will have the best ones with us. In any cases, please don’t take your all library! :)

Species checklists.

Notebooks-a small one for the field, a larger one if you keep a log.

Pencils und pens.

Maps.

Kleenex und/or toilet paper; either may be nonexistent when you most need it.

Hat.

Sunscreen.

Insect repellent.

LED headlamp and flashlight ("torch") with extra batteries.

Alarm clock/watch.

Washcloth in a plastic bag; maybe an old towel.

Extra plastic bags (for muddy bunts und socks that didn't get dry, to cover the camera exposed to road dust or ocean spray).

Poncho, the kind that folds up compactly.

Scarf/bandana, sometimes useful on very dusty roads.

Copy of your itinerary (leave a copy at home in case of an emergency too).

Customs certificates for binoculars, cameras, lenses, und anything else that might be questioned on your return home.

Spare eyeglasses.

Personal medications and first aid supplies: Band-Aids, antacid, laxative, Lomotil, water purifier, cortisone cream, eye drops.

Cosmetics (bare minimum) and items of personal hygiene.

Survival kit (for the really well prepared): string, glue, rubber bands, spare shoe laces, needle and thread, scissors, small pencil sharpener, safety pins.
